A deadly blaze ravages Hot Springs Arkansas burning six blocks of the famed resort. The fire leaves about 2500 people homeless in the residence district. Rapid use of explosives and a favorable wind shift saved several businesses in the business section. Fire officials report the total loss at twelve million dollars with extensive property damage citywide.
A massive forest fire in Hot Springs Arkansas raged with a forty mile wind destroying 60 blocks and key buildings including the court house jail city hall high school Park and Moody hotels Ozark sanitarium and Iron Mountain depot. About 2500 people were left homeless and losses reached 12 million dollars though no lives are reported. Militia and firefighters struggled as dynamite and shifting winds hindered containment while a citizens guard stopped looting.
Yesterday peaked at 92 with a 70 low and 9 precipitation. Forecast predicts unsettled conditions with possible showers tonight or Sunday, cooler by Sunday.
