Swiss Caravelle Explodes After Takeoff Killing 80
A Swissair Caravelle exploded shortly after liftoff from Zurich and crashed near Duerrenaesch killing all 80 aboard. The disaster left debris over eight miles, with 74 passengers and 6 crew members dead, including 44 residents of Humlikon. The crash near two lakes was the worst Swiss air disaster since WWII.

Beloit Firm Executive Dies in Swiss Airliner Crash
Beloit corporation reports Beloit division sales manager Emerson Glauner Jr. 36 of Rockton Illinois was killed in the crash of a Swiss twin jet near Duerrenach Switzerland. He was en route to a paper mill in France with Raymond A Mayer a Beloit International sales engineer also killed. Mayer was a French citizen. Both men had about five years with the company. The two were traveling from Paris to Zurich to Geneva to Rome.
