Miracle Mets Win NL Pennant and Orioles Rally In Oakland
The Mets clinched the NL pennant after Etchebarren tied the game with a seventh inning three run homer and Grich followed with an eighth inning blast. The Orioles beat the A's earlier in the week as Campbell and Grich led the offense with homers and Reynolds and Jackson bridged the bullpen. Meanwhile in high school action Logan defeated Aquinas 20 0 as Steve Lyons connected on two long passes and a defensive Savage Award recipient Rich Kaiser prepared for a big game. Willie Mays was named NL rookie of the year with the Giants.
