Easton Massachusetts AP report details Wilford H. Woodworth 35 paralyzed from polio since age 14 protesting New England Telephone Co progress toward automation. He relies on a special phone setup operated by a switch and a stick in his teeth to reach Brockton operators.
The La Crosse Area Public School District offered 742 acres in La Crosse Interstate Industrial Park plus 600000 dollars to Midwest Foundry Inc for a North Side high school site. Schools Supt. Eugene Balts disclosed the bid as negotiations progress. He indicated this may be as far as he is willing to go, and a rejected offer could trigger a full report to the School Board Council Liaison Committee to consider another site. Balts noted the 1974 top pick site north of Swanson Field remains under consideration pending further discussions.
La Crosse County District Attorney Edmund Nix charged opponent Michael Mulroy with neglecting duties while in office on a Western Wisconsin Technical Institute program. Randolph defended his role, saying he took full responsibility for the office, and accused Nix of excluding him and the judges from the backlog.
In Bangkok violent clashes between leftists and rightists escalated as defense minister Sangad Chalanya seized power from Prime Minister Seni Pramoj. Martial law declared while at least 22 people, mostly students, were killed and about 180 wounded.
A plan for an eight unit apartment at 1414 Vine St was denied after five residents complained of noise, parking shortages, and increased gar bage. aldermen delayed action on a Shelby lot size change and tentatively approved rezoning for 28 to 30 two bedroom units at 3716 Mormon Coulee Rd and a 12 unit building at 2611 Jackson St.
Two Medary residents Buchner and Herold filed a class action in Circuit Court against Medary town officials over the town board expanding the sanitary sewer district to cover the whole town. They contend residents may pay for sewer service they will not receive, while the $900,000 project funds a planned $20 million shopping center and serves about 1,000 others. The suit seeks to set aside the action, alleging capricious conduct by the town board. The town water utility board scheduled a 9:05 p.m. meeting at Fauver Hill School to approve bills for extending the water system in Holiday Heights.
