Hubert O Wolfe of the Jefferson club at the state university introduced W. J. Bryan to about 5000 listeners in the Madison armory. John C Burns attended and met the party leader, while Bryan delivered a stirring address as a guest of honor.
Hubert O. Wolfe of Appleton Wisconsin president of the University Jefferson club with 1000 members impressed at an armory meeting introducing Mr. Bryan. A junior law graduate and brother to William F. and A. C. Wolfe of La Crosse, he pledges future leadership in Wisconsin democracy. Edw. A. Burns named to meet Mr. Bryan at Waukesha.
Mr. Bryan spoke for over five hours to a packed audience and earned unanimous admission to the Jefferson club. He addressed the Young on Democracy's Appeal to the Young, outlining the party's growth and principles and how they have remained original.

Poughkeepsie May 25 Harry Thaw remains insane according to Supreme Justice Morschauser the decision finds his mental disorder evident and unsafe to free. The court bars immediate commitment to Mattewan pending a transfer plea with Thaw gaining a temporary point but remaining confined. The next hearing is set for a week from Saturday.
Attorney Charles B. Morrison, special counsel for the government in the suit to dissolve Standard Oil of New Jersey, leaves for New York to take part in a hearing before Special Commissioner Franklin Ferris. Evidence for the defense was to start in Chicago but was moved to New York at the Standard's request. the government closed its case in Cleveland on April 21.
New Orleans reports a deadly feud near Big Springs Mississippi leaving William Hilton and his son Thomas Hilton dead, John Nation and an unknown man wounded, and another in critical condition. The motive remains unclear as investigators gather details.
In St Paul May 25 the United States circuit court of appeals fined the Omaha road 20000 dollars for granting rebates to the Spicer Grain company of Minneapolis. H M Pierce general freight agent is fined 2000. The opinion upholds the verdict of the federal jury from last December.
Hoboken justice admits he officiated the ceremony and imposed a $50 fine for failure to file papers. Paris reports confirm a June 14 public ceremony in France under a separation of property rule. The Hoboken wedding was allegedly conducted secretly with a $500 payment to the justice.
In Vevay Indiana police today disclosed a plot to blow up local banks. Twenty two sticks of dynamite were found and five ringleaders have been arrested. The case centers on a planned bank bombing with authorities moving to prosecute the suspects.
Principal Louis P Benezet of La Crosse high learns from Eau Claire superintendent that La Crosse is chosen to hold the state oratorical contest on June 2 in the high school auditorium. Seven Lyceum league districts will compete with one delegate from each.
Washington May 25. Republican Senate leaders blame Speaker Cannon for the failure of the emergency currency bill. Uncle Joe says the senate should not adjourn without action and hints at a possible compromise. He aims to show he was a cooperative worker who kept Washington pressing for remedial legislation.
In Clinton Illinois on May 25 handwriting of Mabelle Snell McNamara was identified as Col Snell's reputed heir in the Snell will dispute. John Cheney a Fort Dodge banker verified the writing and signed checks to Mabelle Snell totaling nearly $100,000 from amounts between 50 and 3000 dollars.
In Chicago on May 25, meat inspectors disclosed that tubercular and lumpy jaw cattle carcasses were still fed for meat and consumed by Americans. Tuberculosis among cattle is rising. a plan for closer inspection of beef on the hoof is under consideration with 130 general inspectors and 2,000 in the field attending.
President Fallernes of France arrived in London at 4:15 pm for a few days visit. King Edward, the Prince of Wales, Premier Asquith and other statesmen greeted him at Victoria station and escorted him to St James Palace. The Bo logne municipality also gave him a royal reception before he embarked on the Leon Gambetta.
Joseph J. Howard head of the W. P. Howard Commission company was killed instantly by a lightning strike Sunday afternoon during a storm at the Echo club golf links near Normandy St Louis. A 12 year old caddy Edward Boosteller was stunned but unharmed.

Emma Goldman today insisted she would not stop until Private Wm. Buwalda, recently sentenced to three years in prison for treason, is released. The government says Buwalda's offense was shaking hands and congratulating Goldman while in U S Army uniform in Portland Oregon.
Col. McKenzie brigadier general and chief of engineers U S A retires at 64 after a long river service. The steamer Col MacKenzie is renamed the David Tipton to honor Captain David Tipton who died aboard the vessel. The boat Bosse will be used to clear the Black river channel.
Baltimore Md May 25 Rev W A Quale of Chicago was elected bishop on the tenth ballot at the Methodist conference today with 519 votes. No other candidate was elected. The eleventh ballot was started this afternoon listing five leading candidates: C W Smith 479 Lewis 470 Hughes 449 Stuntz 409 McIntyre 395. Necessary to election 510.
In Jersey City on May 25 Theodore S. Whitmore goes on trial for the murder of his wife Lena last Christmas. The case centers on the Lampblack Swamp location where the body was found and a jury is expected to be seated by nightfall. Whitmore denies knowledge of the crime.
