Move Made To Assure County Welfare Aids
Wisconsin County Boards Association wins approval for a bill to guarantee state payment of multi million dollar aids to county welfare departments for the disabled, dependent children, blind and the indigent aged. Without action by July 1 local programs would rely on county funds if the state budget is not enacted. About 100000 persons rely on state supported county aid rolls.

Ideal board setup for directors urges outside members and young leadership
The SEC raises questions about whether bankers and managers should sit on boards with which they have financial ties. Sidney Weinberg, Goldman Sachs partner, argues for a majority of outside directors who are independent and dedicated. He says directors should resign at 70 or 72. He notes stockholders are protected by reporting and profit disgorgement rules and that conflict of interest has been limited by rules. He warns against excessive outside directorships but supports the board as the supreme corporate body responsible for well running.
