Lease Route Seen For Goose Island Park Expansion
La Crosse County seeks to lease the southern Goose Island area currently in Vernon County to extend Goose Island Park. District Attorney John Flynn told the county board that boundary changes require state legislative action, and that most southern land already sits under U S Bureau of Wildlife and Fisheries control with a wildlife refuge designation. If leasing the land beyond county lines proves legal, the county could acquire about 9 acres along Wigwam Slough for park development, avoiding costly land-record transfers.
