The Railroad Commission says the connection between old and new telephone lines will be completed today. The order aims to ensure both lines function together and mitigate any outages affecting Bell Line users.
The Wisconsin railroad commission ordered La Crosse Telephone and Wisconsin Telephone to connect toll lines and maintain the link with equal costs shared. The ruling, hailed as epochal, may be appealed to the state supreme court and then to the U S Supreme Court if needed. The order gives 30 days to comply and signals broader action to connect all local lines and switchboards.
Temperature in La Crosse over the past 24 hours ranged from 46 to 59 degrees with 0.96 inches of precipitation. Forecasts call for generally fair conditions tonight and Friday with cooler temperatures and moderate winds across Wisconsin Minnesota and Iowa. A storm moving from Kansas into the upper Mississippi valley brings showers and thunderstorms from the plains to the middle Atlantic, with widespread cloudiness and frost in parts of the southern plains.

The county board voted unanimously to close road houses after a bitter denunciation of immoral practice by the supervisors at yesterday’s meeting. The action reflects a firm stance against vice and a push for reform within local governance and public morality.
La Crosse county supervisors enacted two resolutions aimed at enforcing laws on post closing drinks and the activity around country taverns. They redirect a $200 emergency fund to the district attorney to build a case against proprietors and inmates of road houses amid calls to exterminate immoral resorts. District Attorney D S Law supported stronger action and vowed a broad campaign. The measures passed unanimously.

Mary Procowski wife of a Green Bay manufacturer pleaded guilty to a statutory charge in county court and was sentenced to one year in the penitentiary by Judge John Brindley. Her companion also pleaded guilty and received the same term. They were traced to La Crosse and arrested in a local boarding house living as Mr and Mrs Geo Morely.
The Senate met at noon and continued debate on tariff hearings. West Virginia strike discussions were renewed. The House held a short session at noon and adjourned at 12 35 p m until noon tomorrow.
Box Makers union members deny the La Crosse Box plant strike was a union action. They cite the firing of two workers by Superintendent W. J. Joosten as the dispute’s focus and claim wage demands are not the central issue. Ten workers and the foreman quit, others joined, and they will not return until rehiring requests are met.
Buffalo New York May 15 The Erie elevator one of the largest grain elevators at this port was destroyed by fire this afternoon Firemen fought to keep the flames from spreading to ships in the harbor By two oclock the flames reached the freight houses and railroad yards where a string of freight cars were burning The elevator contained 700000 bushels of grain The loss will exceed 1000000 dollars
Governor James M. Cox of Ohio joins a luncheon in honor of Secretary of State Bryan despite an operation on his right eye the day before. A steel fragment was removed from the eye and though painful the condition is not viewed as serious.
In Madison on May 15 a Get together banquet drew Republicans from across Wisconsin. The crowd declared La Follette overwhelmingly popular and saw Lt. Gov. Morris outlining a possible stance for the ticket as Morris spoke, though the name La Follette dominated the event.
Madison May 15 Senator La Follette sent a telegram to George E Scott chairman of the republican state central committee. He praised self government and urged united republican forces to organize for the next forward step while noting he could not attend the banquet due to official obligations.
Lieutenant Governor Morris and Senator Burke attended the event as speakers urged party harmony and redefined the GOP’s future roled in national politics. I H Lenroot praised the party while noting Wisconsin's shift toward La Follette’s reform movement and the likelihood of his presidential candidacy.
