Chicago reports swift unemployment across coal mining and other sectors as locomotive firemen strike on four major rail systems. Pennsylvania Railroad furloughs 85,000 of 125,000. New York Central idle 25,000 and possibly 50,000. Southern Railway 38,000 idle by weekend. Western Pennsylvania's mines close. 4,460 miners idle. Cleveland plants furlough 2,500 with 1,500 recalled. Midland Steel 1,000 laid off then nearly all recalled. Up to 200,000 rail workers may be idle if no settlement. Major service disruptions and increased travel delays reported.

Three Lane Traffic Plan Proposed On Two Streets

City crashes involving out of town and out of state drivers
Out of town and out of state drivers were in three accidents Wednesday and Thursday, with one local driver listed. Joel F. Scallen of Minneapolis struck a parked car owned by Clifford Williams of La Crescent on Vine and Fourth streets. Williams incurred $25 damage. Mrs. Arnold Vieberg of Decorah reported pain after a crash at West avenue and Main street while riding with Guttorm Guttormson of Decorah. In New York a secret service crackdown on a million dollar counterfeiting syndicate added two more arrests in Buffalo, bringing the total to four in custody on federal counterfeiting charges. AlphONSE Stablewski and Henry Stevens were charged with conspiracy amid raids that seized a printing press and plates in Depew. Bonds were set at 100000 each. The ring allegedly passed about 45000 in fake notes across the country and had prevented 280000 that were seized before circulation.
