Chokes on Piece of Cake Ends Life of Local Girl

The three year old daughter of Dr and Mrs D J Griswold of Galesburg Illinois died in a peculiarly tragic accident. Grace Ballard formerly of this city was the mother. The child choked while taking a piece of cake at the supper table and died before help could reach her.

Local High School Field Meet Sets Madison-bound Winners

Tomorrow at the fairground track the senior freshmen and junior sophomores will compete to select La Crosse’s representatives for the interscholastic field meet at Madison this spring. Events include 220 yard low hurdles 100 yard dash 12 pound shot put high jump 440 yard run discus throw 220 yard dash high hurdles broad jump hammer throw half mile run and pole vault with listed entries for both classes.

Brosius Resigns From Milwaukee Turnverein Post

Word reached La Crosse that George Brosius resigns as head of the Milwaukee Turnverein after thirty years and previously led the Wisconsin state Turnerbund. Winslow Warren Leader of Cincinnati Society Born in 1838

Winslow Warren of Dedham Massachusetts, then president general of the Society of the Cincinnati, was born March 20 1838 in Plymouth Massachusetts. A Harvard graduate, he became a lawyer admitted to the bar in 1860 and served as United States commissioner from 1861. He married Mary Lincoln Tinkham on January 3 1867 and later held the post of collector of the port of Boston from 1894 to 1898. He advised corporations and served as a trustee under Boston courts supervision, with high regard for his legal talents.
