La Crosse postal officials study three concepts for a $7 million post office and federal building. Options include preserving the existing structure or tearing it down for a single modern facility, with a phased plan or complete replacement and temporary operations.
Lloyd H. Moore, 48, of 2207 Kane St., is charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident that killed Percy Heath, 75, after a collision at Clinton and Caledonia Streets. Moore’s bond was set at 5000 cash or jail, and a public defender was appointed. A preliminary examination is scheduled for next Friday afternoon.
La Crosse County coroner Curtis Baltz schedules a 9 a.m. Friday May 18 inquest in Circuit Court into the February death of Ellen Hoch 48 of 3431 Greenbriar Court wife of La Crosse lawyer Everett Hoch. Special district attorney James R. Schipper, Viroqua, was named by Circuit Judge Peter Pappas after a request by Dist. Atty. Burleigh Randolph and delays for state crime lab reports.

President Nixon announced the appointment of Army Gen. Alexander M. Haig Jr. as White House staff coordinator, succeeding H. R. Haldeman. Haig, previously Army vice chief of staff since January, assumed the new duties Thursday and is working from Haldeman's former White House office.
Leo Schneider and his brother George, of Schneider Heating and Air Conditioning Inc., have bought the Hoeschler Building on 5th Avenue and the Osco Drugs building across the street for about 750000 from Dr. M. Stanford researchers at Menlo Park describe an ultrasonic camera that bounces sound waves to create live television images of internal organs and movements. The prototype observes muscles tendons and vessels and may aid in diagnosing heart disease cancer and fetal monitoring.
