Six people riding in Pettis and Olson cars sustained minor injuries in a two car crash at Third and Jay streets just before midnight. Wilford D. Pettis 43 suffered a cut forehead and bruised shoulder. Roland Olson was cited for DUI and fined 100 dollars with a one year license suspension.
Cloudy and mild tonight with a low around 25. Light rain changes to snow flurries and turning colder Tuesday. Strong winds and a cold wave expected Tuesday night with a high near 30.
A Burlington Empire Builder collision with a railroad motor car near Trempealeau injured two Trempealeau men. Fred Schwartz suffered a fractured hip and severe lacerations, Dominic Jassky had severe facial lacerations, Cyryl Diamond was unharmed. The three men were part of a track repair crew and were en route to Trempealeau for lunch when struck at about 12 20 p m.
A 28 year old Whitehall mother Mrs Paul Klonecki and her infant son Daniel were killed when their car struck a bridge abutment on STH 93 between Arcadia and Independence. A second son Tommy 2 was injured while another was unharmed. Local officials and volunteers responded at the scene near Arcadia as Klonecki and Daniel were taken to a funeral home. The family were visiting Arcadia from Whitehall and were members of St John Catholic church. No funeral arrangements have been made.
Sid Grauman, master showman and founder of Grauman's Chinese Theater, died Sunday at age 70 from a heart ailment. His Hollywood landmark preserves footprints of movie stars from the late 1920s onward.
La Crosse county Red Cross 1950 fund drive committee banked 13 690 63 after a Sunday house to house canvass. Included are advance gifts and incomplete returns from 20 city wards with rural collections pending. Drive headquarters at Vocational school room 108 and Red Cross office room 104 federal building will tabulate returns 9 am to 5 pm Monday through Saturday. contributions may be left there.
An engineering study by Associated Consultants finds 437 parking spaces are needed immediately in La Crosse with 650 to 750 more by 1960.
