In Merrillan Wisconsin the strawberry season has started and should last three to four weeks. Hollis Beetle a major local grower will harvest a five acre patch with a potential yield of about 50 cases per day. Five years ago Beetle farmed 10 to 12 acres for berries and had an additional 10 acres under cultivation. A 1964 June hail storm devastated most plants, cutting regional berry production and leaving only a few growers. Other growers offer U-Pick patches.

Cool Minnesota summer slows knee high corn growth
Minnesota farmers face cool, variable conditions delaying corn and soy bean development. State officials note behind normal progress with some areas short on rain and others with excess moisture. Researchers say height by Fourth of July is less predictive, favoring plant vigor, density and root systems for future yields.
