250 Attend Affair In Myrick Park
Twenty seven La Crosse County farm youths received registered pigs in their chosen breed at the La Crosse Pig Club 37th annual picnic in Myrick Park. Winners by breed included Duroc Jersey, Chester White, Gene Hampshire and Berkshire pigs with many from West Salem La Crosse and Bangor. The pigs came from litters given to winners in 1955 and winners must raise and return a pig from its litter. Rudy Pralle, club president, noted a pig died from heat but will be replaced. The event drew about 250 attendees for dinner and featured remarks by Carroll Pleger Hormel swine division and 4-H leaders emphasizing responsibility and larger club participation. An educational soil bank meeting is set for June 28 at West Salem High School.
