Watching the Scoreboard by Hal Sheridan
Pittsburgs six scattered hits were insufficient to win. Nap Rucker was at his best and the Dodgers copped a 2-1 fracas from the Corsairs. Eppa Rixeys slants were pie for the Cardinal gang when they bom barded him for five runs in the third session. Two pinch hitters Devore and Byrne for the Phils contributed singles when called upon to stem the tide but their singles went for naught in the final count. Davis, Mavis, Cavet and Dubue were unable to stop the Naps desperate stand against the cellar berth and Chick Blanding was credited with a 5-4 win over the men of Jennings. Milwaukee and Louisville staged a double header prizefight and riot calls were sent in all for the price of one admission. Phil Lewis Brewer, second sacker, and Muggsy McLarry were the principals in the pugilistic encounter which fans today decided a draw. The Cubs are worlds champs today following their 8-7 victory over the Mackian aggregation yesterday at Toledo for the edification of 12 000 fans from an automobile concern in Mud Henville. Minneapolis Millers are up to their old tricks. Two games from Cleveland yesterday and the old timers look dangerous around the upper berth. Thirty-one hits in an afternoons performance is our idea of some Swattest. Columbus pulled the trick on the St. Paul association team, winning the first of a double bill 17 to 0 and the second 4 to 2. Every time a man tries to show off somebody gets his zoat.
