Dulles and Pineau Clash Over Russia Policy Toward Khrushchev Era
Washington reports a French American split over how to handle the Soviet Union after talks between Foreign Minister Pineau and Secretary Dulles. Pineau urged broad East West exchanges and eased trade with the Soviet bloc, while Dulles favored selective contacts and warned against Soviet influence in new nations. They also differed on UN aid, German reunification timing, and Israel arm shipments by Britain, France, and the U.S.
