Matson Focuses on Shot Put for AAU Meet
Texas A and M star Randy Matson will concentrate on the shot put at the National AAU meet in Bakersfield California, discarding discus for now to maximize a 70 foot plus throw. He holds a world shot record of 70 feet 7 1/2 inches set in 1965 at College Station and has topped 71 feet 5 1/2 inches there, believing separate event training will prevent interference. He may continue discus later in the year but expects to focus on the shot through Olympic prep aiming for gold.
