A masked gunman robbed the Holiday Inn dining room of about 550 dollars late Monday. He fired three shots at porter Jack Clappier who chased him. all shots missed. The thief took 475 from a deposit envelope and 80 from the cash register before fleeing east.

Residents reported a fire as La Crosse fire trucks roared through Main and State Streets late Monday. The source was the city park department fogger used in the mosquito spray program releasing dense fog with a disinfectant odor.
