Cincinnati dispatch notes Taft greeted by large crowds as he and the Sherman-Roosevelts depart for Oyster Bay. Hitchcock declines national campaign manager post with no selection yet made.
Taft reaches Cincinnati from Washington at 8 15 am ahead of running mate Sherman who arrives from Chicago. Crowds fill streets, bands play, and a parade forms to Taft's home as delegates discuss national chairman amid posters and speculation. Roosevelt leaves for Oyster Bay with family and officials bidding farewell.
The Du Pont powder plant at Louvier 20 miles southwest of Denver exploded today. A great loss of life is reported with 125 workers employed. Doctors from nearby towns were summoned as the blast shattered windows at Fort Logan ten miles away.
Madrid dispatch reports a fierce tornado in Megadouro Portugal killing about 250 people. In addition 150 sailors and fishermen drowned on the Spanish and Portuguese coasts as crops and buildings were destroyed.
The Mississippi rose to 34.8 feet in St Louis on June 20 and leveled off as a crest. Final damage estimates top billions as thousands of acres flood and crops are ruined, though a slight rise may occur after heavy overnight rains.
In Chicago on June 20 the heatwave worsens with a forecast of higher temperatures. Eight deaths and numerous prostrations over the past two days are reported including Mrs Julia Bisler and Benjamin Bizek among others, with several victims dying at home or in hospitals.

A blast aboard the Hamburg American steamship Arcadia bound from Hamburg caused a fire and left two dead and thirty injured. The freighter's men were unloading when the explosion occurred, one body recovered and eleven injured taken to hospitals.

Des Moines reports Parker of Denver was shot and killed near Kellogg while attempting to kidnap his five year old daughter from his separated wife. The shooter was George Young a former business partner said to have intervened as Parker came between the couple.
Chicago June 20 The exodus of Illinois democratic politicians starts as National Committeeman Roger Sullivan leaves for Denver to attend a sub committee meeting. He will join Committeeman J C Dahlman of Nebraska in Omaha.
Boston financier Thomas W. Lawson prepared to offer to finance the Democratic national campaign to the extent of a million dollars. He charged the Republican party trampled vital traditions and said Taft's nomination marked the climax of insolent attempts to undermine the people and their traditions.
Congressman John J. Esch reports strong GOP unity at the national convention in Chicago with Taft praised as a capable president and Sherman as an experienced Senate presiding officer. Van Auken notes Sherman’s long service and the party’s platform evolution supporting interstate carrier capitalization regulation.

James Glidden of Boston and aeronaut Leo Steven piloted the balloon Boston to a mountain near Putney Vermont. The craft reached a peak altitude of 6100 feet before a safe landing and dispatches reported the event.

Rev. C. H. L. Brown, 33, pastor of the Christian church in Lees Summit Missouri, is under arrest in Kansas City after confessing to gambling and forgery. He had a prior confession of a gambling craze and faces grand jury charges following arraignment.
In La Porte Indiana on June 20, Dr. Haynes of Chicago reported his examination of the stomach of Andrew Helgaline found traces of strychnine and arsenic. The expert testimony establishes that Mrs. Belle Gunness used these poisons to kill her victims.
