The New Yorker reports Taft and Sherman win broad support at the convention. President yields to Iowa plea against Dolliver as Uncle Joe Cannon receives an ovation for his second nomination. Sherman’s nomination pledges New York backing. convention adjourns 11 48 a m today.
Congress nominate James S Sherman of New York for vice president on Taft ticket after commanding 816 votes on first ballot. Roosevelt backing a New Yorker on ticket. Sherman’s nomination met with large cheers as delegates from many states united behind the New York choice.
The crowd exited as the band played Alice Where Art Thou. Mrs Longworth, plus Murphy of New Jersey and Gov Guild of Massachusetts, were named in nomination and Sheldon of Nebraska and Fairbanks received recognition. Sherman overtakes Dolliver amid internal party troubles, ending the nominating fight. Powell Clayton of Arkansas chosen temporary chairman, Elmer Dover re-elected secretary, and Stone sergeant at arms as the National Committee plans to approach candidates for the permanent role.
Chicago June 19 1912 William Howard Taft named Republican presidential nominee as 16 000 at the Coliseum cheer the party platform adopts and delegates cheer wildly. Analysts say Roosevelt supporters worry Bryan victory possible in November amid quotes from local Democrats praising the outcome.

Official White House notice announces Taft's resignation and Gen Luke E Wright of Tennessee appointed to succeed him as secretary of war. Wright, former governor of the Philippines and ambassador to Japan, is slated to take the post.

The La Crosse area reports 64 cool and 84 warmest with wind at 10 miles and rainfall at .18. Rivers show La Crosse at 11.2 feet and Prairie du Chien at 12.8 feet with minor changes. Forecasts call for continued warm, generally fair weather with possible local storms tonight or Saturday.
