Drought aid short of Lucey request in Wisconsin
President Ford moved to aid drought struck northwest Wisconsin farmers with a federal hay transport program and funds to move feed grain. Governor Lucey said the package falls short of his request for full funding to collect transport and distribute hay and grain across 18 counties. He ordered state officials to press agriculture officials for emergency hay shipments. A separate item notes NSP won a permit to build a 1 million dollar transmission substation southeast of Sparta on a 17 acre site near John Street.

County Board Delays Nix Staff Request On Emergency Need
La Crosse County Board took no action on an urgent request by District Attorney Edmund A. Nix for an additional assistant DA and a legal secretary. The Law Enforcement Committee tasked County Personnel Director Kenneth Guthrie to study the problem, citing lack of specifics to approve or deny. Nix criticized judges for scheduling trials without his office, noting 18 jury trials and 35 court trials in a 10 day span and citing a dismissed Dockerty case for failure of state appearance.
