Roosevelt arrives in New York City to a joyous welcome as crowds fill Battery Park. Mayor Gaynor leads the salute and thousands await the returning hero after his trip while the naval parade is shortened to speed the reception. The president expresses pleasure with the journey and joy to be back in America.
Returning ex president voices pride and humility as a vast naval parade unfolds in New York. Roosevelt and family transfer to a revenue cutter, meet Mayor Gaynor, and proceed to a grandstand amid crowds. luncheon follows at Douglas Robinson's home after the parade reaches Fifty-eighth Street.
Theodore Roosevelt arrives in New York aboard the Kaiserin Auguste Victoria after an extended trip to Africa and Europe. Crowds greet the former president as quarantine ends and a motorcade moves along the Battery, Fifth Avenue, and Broadway.

President Taft's letter was delivered by Captain Butt who described the communication as purely personal. The outcome or further action was not disclosed.

Moses Sacks, 60, jewelry salesman of 24 East Ninety-Ninth Street, was found yesterday afternoon stuffed in a trunk in a Goerck Street tenement. Police say he was murdered for robbery, with the trunk left in the hallway at 2 PM. The body was fully dressed and surrounded by torn leather jewelry cases. The crime occurred yesterday morning. the coroner investigated.
Matt Ruesgen who shot and killed John H. Studier will switch to a not guilty plea in circuit court. His parents have hired Attorney W. F. Wolfe to argue an insanity defense asserting lack of responsibility at the time of the shooting. The case may be heard at the September term.
In the Memphis to Little Rock Glidden tour the Mauertania car No. 14 crashed on lap five causing fire and dropping out. Only two cars remained with perfect scores this morning as the American Automobile Association technical committee voided the vehicle.
The burning schooner Norembaga, en route from Philadelphia to Calais Maine, was sighted by the Mauretania and identified. The Mills cut her down in dense fog, set her afire, and abandoned ship. Captain Olsen and twenty crewmen were rescued with great difficulty.
Lew Criger II catcher for the American New York team is pronounced ill in Cleveland and believed to require an operation. Criger is one of the best known old time players in baseball.
Rock Creek Kentucky June 18 Rev Robt Vanover and Rev Isaac Perry rival Baptist ministers fought with knives in the pulpit at Rock Creek Baptist church. Vanover's throat was cut from ear to ear and he died minutes later. Blaine Perry brother of Isaac is in jail with him at Williamsburg. Church trouble said to have caused the fight.
The Week Financial reports New York on June 18 shows a rise in bank reserves and loans. Reserve on all deposits up to 2,985,075 with deposits increasing 7,718,900 and total loans at 1,195,089,700. Specie and legal tender also rise while bank surplus grows to 26,515,050 from last year.
The June 18 market shows lighter volume and general decline with Hawley stocks tumbling between transactions. Trading is narrow and most issues lack support, declines reaching 1 4 to 1 2 point amid a holiday movement with little outside business.

Wilson disappeared May 7 after the workers she employed visited. Ridgeway Wilson found her body May 9 with a rag at the neck and a triangular wound on the forehead.
Cleveland strife as federal suit targets the Great Lakes Towing Company and dozens of subsidiaries. District Attorney Day files the action under German antitrust law alleging a regional monopoly in Great Lakes towing. Attorney General Wickeds ham approved and signed the petition after Day’s conference.
Four men blew open the Pryor Creek Oklahoma post office safe using mail sacks to muffle the blast and escaped with 4000 in stamps and 15 in cash. The early morning heist occurred in Pryor Creek as authorities investigated the crime.

Wisconsin Minnesota Iowa forecasts show fair to Sunday with mild cooling northwest in Minnesota and continued warmth near Iowa rivers. River level to fall slowly over the next 48 hours.
