The funeral of Mrs Barbara Girard who died Saturday morning at 1 o clock from stomach cancer will be held from her residence at 2 39 tomorrow afternoon Reverend Henry Faville of the First Congregational church will officiate She was born October 27 1845 Surviving children are Mrs Charles Cronk Montfort Wisconsin Mrs Carles Downs Norfolk Virginia Dr George Strauss Bangor Wisconsin Andrew Strauss Millie Struss and Ella Girard all of this city

She asserts he secretly married Ellen Gorgen in 1866 in Texas and that she is their daughter born after the union. She says proof shows the late Silent Smith died in Japan last March.
In Flandreau South Dakota Joe Kirby attorney for the defense disputed Peter Erickson’s claim that Kirby urged him to omit testimony at the preliminary examination. Testimony from J H Ramsey shoe dealer and Joseph Schwartz architect supported the defense. Kaufmann testified that Erickson had tried to blackmail him by offering to aid the defense for a price.

The badly decomposed body of Mrs. Rosa Wright was recovered this morning near the old mill site while fishing. She had drowned with William Van Camp during a windy skiff trip on May 12th. Van Camp's body was found earlier at the mouth of Running Slough. Relatives in Onalaska were notified to arrange burial at county expense unless local kin take charge.
Otto Mueller, long time city draughtsman in the engineers office, today announced he is not a candidate to succeed City Engineer Walter Woods. He stated he wants no misunderstanding and that he will not seek the position.

A newsboy John Gibson narrowly escaped a fatal train strike at the North Side Milwaukee depot after Miss Mayme Nesler was killed earlier when Train No 5 approached.
