Pierce elected board chairman in La Crosse County

Charles Pierce narrowly defeated William Ipsen 16 to 15 to become the La Crosse County Board chairman filling the unexpired term of William Bush. Pierce, 52, a Town of Onalaska supervisor since 1970, will be a part time chairman and continues to run his 250 acre dairy farm.

El Paso man to face Houston County on fatal hit and run

Robert L. Engstler, 45, of El Paso Texas, driver in a fatal hit and run near Brownsville, to appear in Houston County court. He is free on 10 percent of a $5,000 bond set in La Crosse County after he turned himself in. The crash on Highway 26 killed Arthur Osborn 18 and seriously hurt Alan Hunter 19, both of La Crescent. a warrant charged leaving the scene, failing to report a fatal injury, and criminal negligence.

Franciscan nun marks 75 years in order with diamond jubilee

McKee to face battery charge over student incident

La Crosse District Attorney Michael Mulroy plans to charge Myron McKee a former Longfellow Junior High principal with battery related to a June 8 fight with 15 year old Andy Oldenburg McKee faces potential jail or fine and may seek a jury trial Mulroy based the charge on police and medical reports and a Lutheran Hospital doctor’s findings Oldenburg was treated at Lutheran Hospital after the incident which occurred as classes were ending for the summer McKee says the incident stemmed from Oldenburg throwing firecrackers and wrestled with the boy before witnesses who observed a facial impact on the playground.
