President Wilson says currency legislation will be pushed this week and that no discord exists with Secretary Bryan. He asserts the currency bill is a joint administration effort not a personal measure, calling it a crystallization of sentiment rather than a Wilson dictation.
Chicago on June 16 reports 95 at noon setting a 1913 record. Coroner records six heat deaths in fifty hours with numerous prostrations. Stock Yards losses mount as 1590 to 2000 hogs die from the heat, about $35,000 in livestock losses.
Milwaukee reports five heat prostrations by noon with temperatures near 91 degrees as a cooling shower forecast for later. One victim is in serious condition and more cases are anticipated as the day grows hotter.
Lincoln Nebraska June 16 Pearl Francomb a 22 year old waitress collapsed unconscious during lunch at the Lincoln hotel. She was taken to a hospital in serious condition as temperatures neared 100 degrees. The heat wave already reddened wheat fields in rural districts signaling an early harvest.
In St Paul Minnesota on June 16 the high temperature drove residents to lakes and rivers for relief, yet no deaths or prostrations were reported today, continuing the present season’s heat pattern.
Philadelphia reports two deaths and many heat prostrations as a heat wave grips the city. Forecaster Baker says temperatures will rise gradually with no relief in sight.
Denver reports a maximum temperature of 102 for the past 24 hours but no prostrations have occurred. Officials attribute the heat to low humidity and forecast another hot day with possible thunderstorms by night.

Miss Margaret Wilson daughter of the U S president arrived in Madison for a week as guest of Mrs Joseph E Davies wife of the commissioner of corporations. She declined interviews and left Washington for a quiet trip to attend the University of Wisconsin class of 1868 reunion with Mr and Mrs Davies also arriving from Washington.
At 8:30 a m on Thursday June 12 the steamer Sidney of the Streckfus line entered the Keokuk lock, was raised 40 feet, and proceeded to Lake Cooper toward Burlington signaling the opening of navigation through the dam and lock built for the Keokuk power plant. The lake formed by the dam is 40 feet deep, three miles wide and sixty miles long. The Sidney was followed by the W W of Streckfus bound for Rock Island and Davenport.
The funeral of Mrs. Anne Walker was held this afternoon at 3 from the residence on South Eighth Street. Rev. Everett Johnson officiated. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.
M I Vought son of T L Vought La Crosse arrived in Galveston June 7 from Tampico with refugees. He wrote his father the wound from a Mauser rifle on the head was slight and nearly healed. Mr and Mrs Vought then went to San Antonio to visit friends. Mrs Vought’s sister left for home.
Probate Judge Charles S. Cutting resigned to Gov. Dunne, saying he wants to enter business not requiring involvement in politics. The June 16 announcement marks his departure from the bench.
La Crosse high school alumni held its first annual banquet adopting a constitution and by-laws and electing officers led by Stephen Martindale as president and Grace Gesell as vice president. About 250 alumni and guests attended the dinner in the high school lunch room, with a program featuring speeches from former students and city officials and ending with an informal dance in the Hixon Annex.
The Interstate Commerce Commission permanently sustains its suspension of railroad tariffs that would end water routes in favor of rail transport for coal from Kentucky and West Virginia to points north of Milwaukee Manitowoc and Kenosha Wisconsin. Dr. F Swathe and Dr. D Van Wagener report a near Casper fossil bed eighteen miles away containing an almost perfect skeleton of a flying reptile likely a pterodactyl. The creature measured sixty feet in length with a wingspan near eighty feet in life.
Mrs. Fred A. Britten of Chicago is seen each morning on Pennsylvania avenue Washington driving a sixty horsepower automobile carrying her husband Congressman Fred A. Britten to the capitol. Her driving skill and beauty attract attention as many congressmen watch her car pass by.
Madison report notes Hon. C. L. Hood of La Crosse may seek the Democratic nomination for governor. While announcements are early, Hood is a considered contender and has told associates he may enter the race. Other potential names include ex-Congressman Weisse, Ikey Karel, John A. Aylward, and Adolph Schmitz, causing some local dismay.
The baccalaureate at the University of Wisconsin was held in the armory on Sunday afternoon. President C R Van Hise delivered the address on The University Man in the Twentieth Century. He spoke of opportunities for service by the younger generation. Madison pastors assisted and Mrs Mabel Sharp Herdien of Chicago provided music.
Hundreds of militant suffragists gather at the king's bench division as the second suit proceeds to determine if suffrage leaders can be held liable for property damage. Plaintiffs are West End merchants whose shop windows were smashed. defendants include Mrs Emmeline Pankhurst Miss Christabel Pankhurst and the Pethick Lawrence family.
Elgin Illinois on June 16 butter was priced at 28 cents per pound a rise from last week by a fraction. The report notes the higher quotation reflects market movement and buyer demand in the region.
Frank E. Smith president of Smith Manufacturing argues if the board of trade effort to promote La Crosse made goods fails he will organize a city store selling exclusively La Crosse products. He says the store would prove home goods can compete with outside lines and be profitable, though overall sales in all stores would be more valuable.
The infant of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Saltz died at 813 Caledonia Street Saturday night at 6. Funeral services were held this morning at 10 from the residence and burial followed in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Clement C. Smith authorized Peter Valier to grant a two cent per hour increase for seventy five motormen and conductors of Wisconsin Railroad Light and Power. The new schedule starts at twenty one cents an hour for six months rising to twenty five cents by the second year with overtime rules intact and arbitration for disputes. The contract was signed by company officers and union leaders including Peter F. Sieger.
