Grubs Cut Dairy Profits Across Wisconsin Herds
Wisconsin dairy profits shrink as cattle grubs infest herds in Dane County surveys. Packing-house checks from 1946 to 1948 show about one quarter of cows with lower slaughter value due to warbles. Losses arise from reduced milk, damaged hides, and tougher meat. Rotenone powder or dust is the only known insecticide effective against grubs, requiring at least 1.5 percent rotenone.
