Low Moisture Silage New Look In Feeds
Wisconsin dairy specialists Bill Baumgardt and Bob Neidermeier report low moisture silage as the new feed trend. Cows prefer wilted silage at 50 percent moisture, eat more, and crave less dry forage, with advantages like reduced odors and no preservatives. Precautions include alfalfa pre-bloom, fine packing, 50–55 percent moisture, one quarter inch chop, sharp knives, tight wagons, rapid silo filling, sealed doors, and 70 percent moisture top sealing to keep air out.

MADISON Wisconsin authorities warn DDVP fly killing syrups lose strength yearly. H E Halliday of the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture General Laboratory Division urges manufacturers to recall carry over stocks and replace with fresh product this spring.
