Farrowing to Finishing New Swine System Dream

Harrison Storandt near West Salem Wisconsin completed a two-building swine operation to farrow 80 litters yearly and finish 200 pigs at once. The system includes 20 farrowing pens with automatic feeders and waterers, a finished level cleaner, and a 50 by 70 foot finishing house with four pens for 200 pigs. Storandt funded design with UW engineers, built a unique double-cleaner drive, and expects future feeder-pig operation if market conditions permit. He shifted from Chester White stock after a rhinitis outbreak and now aims for quality pork with planned crossbreeding.
