Planning Committee Inspects La Crosse Monroe Hospitals
La Crosse county supervisors and the planning committee visited La Crosse and Monroe infirmaries Thursday to review crowded conditions at Shelby and to view the nearing completion Monroe county building. The Shelby infirmary, costing 25000 and self paying in a year, now houses 59 patients in a space for 28. Plans for a new 100 bed infirmary estimated at 400000 were outlined, with occupancy expected by 16 June. Monroe county’s 108 bed, fireproof infirmary on the same tract is to be ready by end July, costing 420000 with tiled bathrooms and oak doors. La Crosse county’s new infirmary would be similar, but Shelby’s current setup uses porches for beds with eight and nine beds respectively and no fire exits prior to the last inspection.
