State Public Welfare Bureau Chief Is Fired

Blaine M. Linke 49, longtime head of the collection and deportation bureau, was dismissed by State Welfare Director John W. Tramburg effective midnight. Linked to May 18 disorderly conduct plea, Linke began in 1926 as a statistician. the bureau handles care costs and deportation of nonresident mentally ill or deficient persons. The welfare board will name a successor to Paul Yount, head of corrections, at the June 14 meeting. By July 13 a new board will take over with two civil service members and the new corrections chief.

A heavy coal laden trailer broke away from a truck on U S 2 near St Ignace Michigan and struck a car killing three occupants. Victims were Hilelis Foster 38 of Woodstock Ontario a Canadian policeman his wife and Wilbert Hillis Foster 68 of Granton Ontario. State police required three hours to remove the bodies after cutting the twisted metal with acetylene torches.
