Washington reports show Senator Lorimer of Illinois faces a new inquiry by the Senate privileges and elections committee. The body will include four members who voted for conviction and four who voted for acquittal, after a seven hour debate settled the plan by 48 to 20. Lorimer may resign or mount a renewed fight as Springfield considers the reopened bribery case connected to his election.
An attempted fraud against Charles A. Hoeschler resurfaces under the "hidden fortune" scheme. A Russian signer calling itself An Absconding Russian Banker promised Hoeschler $160,000 for an advance payment. Hoeschler declines the offer, choosing not to take the money.

Fire leveled the grain elevator and two malt kilns at the Konrad Schreier Brewing Co in Sheboygan Wisconsin causing about 400000 in damage. The main plant building, the largest in the state outside Milwaukee, was saved.
A locomotive hauling a Union Pacific freight train exploded near North Platte Neb killing three men identified as Ralph Smith of Salina and brake man Tad Smith of North Platte, with additional victims unnamed.
J. D. Bren the university cashier reports three men stopped him at 10 30 a m on campus and robbed a satchel containing 13000. Bren was returning from Northwestern National Bank when two men restrained him and a third took the satchel. The empty satchel was later found on railroad tracks near the campus.
The Knights of Pythias in the city observe Memorial Day for deceased brothers with services led by Rev. Clarke at North Presbyterian Church on Sunday June 4. The North and South side lodges join in ceremonies at the cemetery on Sunday June 11 after meeting at 9:30 a.m.
Chicago reports Mrs. Fred Carsten a 60 year old mother traveling from Chicago to New York to aid in her son’s defense as police review local records of Harry A. Scheib the chauffeur held in New York on a wife murder tied to the bath tub mystery. The mother says she last heard from him years ago and notes he asked for money when he wrote.
In Pittsburgh on June 2 courts granted the district attorney’s petition clearing 62 graft indictments against 38 councilmen. Indictments remain for former councilman William Brand and delinquent tax collector G. Leslie. It is alleged boodlers took $129,500.
Wireless distress relayed from the Alaska coast requests help for the British steamer Amur stranded on a reef in Wrangel narrows. Crew and passengers are in immediate danger as two British salvage boats depart Victoria, British Columbia, to attempt rescue.

The document objects to government inaction and criticizes national administration handling of Alaskan affairs. It recalls Cordova residents tossing imported coal into the sea after being barred from mining locally.
In Managua on June 2, Diaz's government mobilizes all available soldiers amid fears of a liberal plotted revolution. After La Loma fortifications were blown up Wednesday killing over 120 soldiers, about a score of liberals were arrested on suspicion of complicity.
Professor Albert Salisbury aged 68, president of Whitewater Normal School, Civil War veteran and author, died suddenly of heart disease at Sacred Heart Sanitarium in Milwaukee where he had been a patient for several weeks.

Johnson reports strong signature gains with few refusals and Marvin expects easy signature collection to meet required thresholds.

He favored price controls and public disclosure of corporate affairs. He discussed a proposed worldwide iron and steel institute to stabilize prices and said U S Steel once controlled over 60 percent of output, now about 50. He cited ore holdings in Minnesota and claimed Vermillion ore remained unsold to independents.
For La Crosse and vicinity unsettled weather with showers tonight or Saturday and no decided change in temperature. In Wisconsin and Minnesota unsettled conditions continue with showers and possible thunderstorms from Montana to Wisconsin and northern Iowa. Elsewhere the weather remains generally fair with small temperature changes, cooler in the northwest.
