E H Gary testifies that United States Steel controls its subsidiary companies outright and earns income only from dividends. He accuses Taft's Commerce and Labor Department of suppressing a report and says the trust can easily replace any subsidiary management deemed detrimental.
At a June 1 hearing the Stanley steel investigation team hinted that President Taft or the commerce department has suppressed a six year Bureau of Corporations inquiry into U S Steel. Judge Gary claimed the government already holds vast internal company documents and that the full report may reach the president within months.
