La Crosse citizens are urged to avoid carrying large sums in public after a spike in thefts. Chief J F Webber warns against counting money on streets, traveling with deposits, and speaking publicly of business. He advises using trusted messengers, avoiding dark hallways, and notifying police if any suspicion arises.
La Crosse lawyers and county officials paid last tribute to W. S. Burroughs dean of the La Crosse bar with funeral services at his home on South Seventh Street and burial in Oak Grove Cemetery. The Rev Robert S Winter officiated and pallbearers were fellow La Crosse lawyers Frank Winter J Gordon J E McConnell G Wunge A C Wolfe and Otto Bosshard. Interment followed a service attended by many attorneys from the city and state. Local accident reports note John Gady of La Crescent a sixth street driver struck a car driven by Briske on Main Street. both drivers escaped injury and the vehicles suffered front wheel and axle damage.
Nebraska authorities search for Rev. W. C. Harrell, 50, pastor of Homer church, accused of eloping with 16 year old Hazel Riley. The farmer's daughter, who lived with him for months, was returned to her father after a deputy sheriff interview. Harrell reportedly left with his wife ill in an Omaha hospice.
Kenosha Wis Judge Frank Armonds recently appointed district attorney by Governor Blaine pledged to enforce the law in Kenosha County and indicated he would call out troops if needed to back prohibition statutes. He said the governor promised full cooperation to aid the cleanup effort.
