Interstate Fair ends after record attendance in West Salem
The 1973 La Crosse Interstate Fair closed in West Salem after a tractor pull lasting into the early hours. Attendance through Saturday reached 170000 to 175000 with Sunday crowds the largest ever for a Sunday. Top Percheron and Clydesdale horses were crowned by Ralph Emmons Hankee Farms Jones Farm and Ray Wangen among others.

Injunction Issued Against New Jersey Firm
A Ramsey County district judge issued a permanent injunction against a New Jersey firm and its owner. Attorney General Warren Spannaus said the judge barred use of the names Office of Cemetery Services and Office of Cemetery Information for implying government affiliation. The firm was also enjoined from claiming its cemetery monument inscription services are government required.
Pan American Flight 816 Crashes Near Tahiti
A Pan American jet from Auckland to Los Angeles with 69 passengers and 10 crew crashed into the sea near Papeete Tahiti minutes after takeoff. One survivor, a Canadian, and 12 bodies were found as search efforts continued two miles north of Papeete harbor.

Postal Contract Ratified by Four Unions Nationwide
