Don Cameron of Terre Haute denies marriage plans after a reported trip to Springfield to see a sick wife. He was said to be laid off following umpire trouble, with friends noting no engagement and the North Side society woman denying any marriage plans.
Galesville Wis July 17 Special Galesville welcomed more than eleven hundred La Crosse visitors who filled two special trains of seventeen coaches for the annual La Crosse Retail Grocery association picnic. The trains left La Crosse at 8 30 this morning, both sections crowded with picnickers, and returned safely. Mayor W A Anderson phoned President James B Murray to report good weather for the outing, noting he would remain behind to watch those not joining the trip.
Orley Tagland a Rushford yeoman, injured in the Georgia battleship explosion, is listed in very critical condition with doctors hoping for recovery. His father Olaus Tagland travels to Boston from Rushford to be at his bedside during the critical period, with plans to return home once recovery progresses. The navy telegrams offer no detail on the injuries.
A so called wild man terrorized Indiana shore towns for three days. He wounded Policeman Frank Chambers of Gary and five others before a posse of 150 surrounded him. In a fierce exchange about 2 000 shots were fired. the desperado was killed, his identity unrevealed.
Tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. La Crosse sharpshooters compete for the Chronicle cup at Winona. Delegation from La Crosse includes Archie Berry Jessie Winters Arthur J. Roberge J W Culp and Henry Gohres. Competing towns are Winona Viroqua Tomah and La Crosse. Winona has won the cup twice and must win again to keep it. La Crosse team optimistic and confident of victory.
The body of A W Lee president of the Lee Newspaper syndicate who died in Liverpool will be shipped on the Virginia the same vessel he arrived on. The Virginia departs Liverpool July 19 and is due in Montreal about July 27.
