Madison Wisconsin July 16 Gov Davidson signed a 2-cent fare measure into law at 10 45 this morning that will set a 2-cent passenger rate on all roads. The governor may issue a memorandum explaining his reasons and will not return the bill to the legislature until this afternoon.
The July 16 social column notes seven rail lines affected by a proposed two cent fare: Chicago Milwaukee St Paul Chicago and Northwestern Minneapolis Omaha Chicago Burlington Quincy Great Northern Minnesota and St Paul Sault Ste Marie and Wisconsin Central.
Governor Davidson vetoes four measures including Sanborn traction trust limits and Milwaukee county clerical cap, while senators Morris and Wright push a reduced gross earning bill through. The night also saw bills on school salaries and inland boat inspections vetoed amid ongoing legislative battles. Foresters drill team of Gateway City camp 360 plans an evening river outing aboard the Fowler launch with refreshments.

Gen Alikhanoff former governor general of Tiflis was killed by a bomb in Alexandropol amid revolts. His death also claimed Mme Glieboff and the coachman. his son and her daughter were injured. A second blast destroyed the carriage and killed horses, with hundreds reportedly dead in a prior attempt last May. Meanwhile in La Crosse Wisconsin a religious ceremony marked by Bishop James J Schwebach saw seventeen young women take perpetual vows at the Perpetual Adoration chapel adjoining St Rose Convent.
A La Crosse committee pushes a 10000 fundraising effort to save Granddad Bluff from contractors. Attorney George H. Gordon and E. G. Perkins raised 2000 the previous day but left for legal business. They plan to resume soon with renewed vigor, seeking firm pledges rather than questions.
Howard E. Dyer of a Minot grocery firm was arrested by Officer Lary Dugan en route to Minot and later taken to Elroy Wisconsin to answer to charges of passing counterfeit money. He says he drew five $20 pieces from the bank and did not know one was counterfeit. His wife stayed behind in Elroy.
London reports that Mrs Potter Palmer has served notice through her solicitors warning English newspapers to cease printing unauthorized marriage rumors originating in America. She will file suit if such items appear.
In Chicago on July 16 Herman Billek testifies in his defense admitting he duped six Vizal family members with fake charms. He says the family trusted him, describing acts like giving cold cream for rheumatism and whisky with saltpetre. He denies loving Mrs Vizal.
Cherryville Kansas July 16 two robbers held up the St Louis San Francisco freight five miles east of town this morning killing O J Brown and wounding Otis Taylor harvest hands returning home with their savings authorities pursued suspects and investigated the daylight robbery and shooting
San Francisco July 16 a new mayor will be elected at four this afternoon. District Attorney Langdon is reported to have reached agreement to be chosen by the board of supervisors this morning.
A July report from St. Petersburg denies rumors that Count Tolstoi is dead or ill. He is stated to be in excellent health.

In Connelsville Pennsylvania July 16 a leverman Stephen Kerrigan halted a plot to derail a Baltimore and Ohio train carrying Elks bound for Philadelphia. In Philadelphia thousand delegates met as John Tener and John Kehler contend for grand exalted ruler and grand trusteeship. A St Bernard attacked 9 year old Leonard Knothe and Florence Christiansen but rabies tests showed no trace. dog to be observed.
Jerre Murphy editor of the Butte Inter Mountain visits to discuss a La Follette for president boom in Montana while denying political significance. He predicts solid Montana backing for Roosevelt if he seeks a third term and notes La Follette’s statewide network. He also comments on Governor Davidson and the 2 cent fare bill.
Boise Idaho July 16 Nothing new at the Haywood trial session forenoon focused on impeaching witnesses who testified Orchard was absent at the Sullivan mine explosion and reciting Cripple Creek conditions. Cyrus Aller former railroad agent arrested on perjury was bound over. Tolman former Cripple Creek Miners' Association president testified McCormick was killed in the indicator mine and explained Orchard entry and mistaken levels.
The decomposed body of a woman likely Rosa Wright, drowned with William Van Camp in the Mississippi in mid May, was found seven miles below Brownsville by local residents while fishing. Identification is uncertain. only stockings and shoes remain. The body was recovered after a difficult drag from a slough and transported by launch. relatives will view it later.
Nicholas P. Fairbanks was left by the train crew at a water tank forty miles north of Portland on Monday. He dined with the section boss and his family and stayed until the regular train to Astoria arrived, missing the train because the conductor thought he was aboard.
A woman attempting a stunt launching herself into space was caught by three husky colored roustabouts and then a boat was launched successfully last night. Two men followed moments later performing the same feat on the St. Paul packet.
Wisconsin Governor James O. Davidson is invited to headline the booster day celebration planned for August 21. Organizer W. E. Barber says the event aims to energize the campaign with bands, parades, park programs, and continuous activities from noon to 10 p.m.
New York July 16. Eugene Raymond a young aeronaut from this city soared 7000 feet at Belleville New Jersey as thousands watched. His clothing caught fire while being shot from a cannon causing the parachute to blaze. He landed a mile away and lost consciousness, now in Passaic hospital bandaged and under care.
James Slayton was killed during a wedding celebration in St. Joseph Missouri when a blow to the jaw broke his neck. Fred Kendall a wedding guest was arrested in connection with the fatal fight last night.
Chicago markets show cattle at 5.80 to 7.39, stockers 2.90 to 5.25, hogs at 5.70 to 6.07, pigs 15.50 to 6.05, and sheep natives 3.75 to 6.00 with lambs 5.75 to 7.65. Wheat opens at 92 to 93 and declines to 93, corn opens 53, oats 39 slipping to 38.
