David Stromstad, longtime Washington and La Crosse county Republican figure, has returned from Conrad Montana where he became owner of a large farm. He previously homesteaded near Conrad eight miles from the city and reports thriving Western conditions. He has served on the county board, as Senate doorkeeper for two terms, and as a delegate to state Republican conventions.
The Gateway City Camp No. 360 M. W. A. installed officers for the year with J. B. Murray as installing officer. Hamilton Lodge No. 37 Knights of Pythias also installed officers at the North Side lodge rooms with C. A. Hunt district deputy conducting.
The La Crosse Motorcycle Club held a large meeting above the Bijou theater. Officers elected include President William Johnson, Vice President Al Miller, Secretary Ted Schultz, Treasurer A Arenz, Captain H Campbell, Lieutenant Al Miller.
The bodies of Alex J. Schutte and John Budde were en route today from Milwaukee to Mankato Minnesota after a fatal incident.
In Wyoming, Democrats and Progressives back private detectives probing fraud in Uinta district elections. The state house votes on three contested Republican seats, which would produce a 45 38 38 split on joint ballot and bolster Warren’s re election unless the Senate acts led by La Follette with cross party support.
James Castello was arraigned in county court on intoxication charges. When asked his plea he said he was neither drunk nor sober. Judge John Brindley sentenced him to twenty days in jail and quipped that reporters ought to be there.
A small fire at William Ross's residence 1505 Badger Street was caused by gasoline overflow from a stove tank this morning. Firefighters from No. 1 were summoned but the blaze was put out by residents before the crew arrived.
Justice Rudd issued a warrant for General Sickles arrest in Albany for converting public funds. He faced a $23,476 charge after shortages in his role as New York monument commission chairman. Sickles pledged repayment but failed to provide funds, prompting criminal action.
A levee breaks causing flooding in a low land area. Emergency crews respond as residents evacuate to higher ground and assess damage to homes and fields. No injuries reported at this time.
