Saengerfest leaders hold a Germania meeting to back a stock company built auditorium on a yet-unsettled site with July 23 1908 set as the event date. Labor unions pledge help with stock sales while Behrens Schick and Behrens travel from Chicago Milwaukee to push plans and fundraising.
The Frohsinn Singing society marked its 23rd anniversary in Frohsinn hall with a full crowd. John Utermoehl delivered the evening address recounting the group's history and growth, as charter members John Malin and Wenzel Guenther attended the event.
A severe snow storm sweeps eastern Wisconsin causing major railroad disruptions and hindering telegram and communications services. Milwaukee and Chicago report the fiercest conditions while smaller towns west of Milwaukee feel its effects as weather elsewhere remains mild.
B M Reynolds longtime La Crosse educator and father of Mrs Henry C Stevens dies in Morgan City at 80. He served as La Crosse high school principal from 1873 to 1877 and later lived in Northfield Minnesota. Survived by two sons Joseph E Reynolds and Ross S Reynolds. Body shipped to La Crosse or Northfield for burial.
Mrs Ida Bowen a wealthy widow in Fort Wayne Indiana has been unconscious for ninety hours after being found nearly suffocated by illuminating gas in her home. The long exposure and resulting coma mark a grave health crisis for the patient with no clear prognosis issued yet by doctors at the scene.
Wisconsin supporters push plan to let voters choose national convention delegates rather than caucus. W. W. Powell of Milwaukee aids Michigan efforts in Van Buren and other districts. Taft faction criticizes but La Follette advocates see broad use of direct appeal in multiple states.
Col William Lightfoot Visscher tearfully told police he fired at Patrol Conductor Dillion after losing control in Omaha Nebraska. He said he carried a pistol in Chicago and did not intend harm, insisting no ill will toward the officer. Authorities keep him in custody pending investigation of the shooting.
Cora the fire horse from North La Crosse No. 2 station left the city forever after an auction held by the board of public works. The nine year old horse fetched 99.59 dollars at about 2 o clock this afternoon.

New York report quotes Prof. Simon Flexner of the Rockefeller Institute predicting that experimental surgery and vivisection will enable substitution of healthy animal organs for diseased human parts. Dr. Alexis Carrel’s kidney transplants prove the first step toward this future, with a human patient potentially living after diseased kidneys are removed and replaced by healthy animal kidneys. The coming heart, stomach, or kidneys may soon be possible.
James Byrne of 231 Mill Street brother of the late Hugh H. Byrne was stricken with paralysis Thursday and rushed to St. Francis hospital. His condition is very serious but doctors hope for recovery.
Edward H. Allison of Rosebud South Dakota, longtime scout and interpreter, helped bring Sitting Bull into a camp of federal troops and enabled peace talks with the Sioux. Despite loyal service in the Indian wars and a key role in ending hostilities, his government recognition has been delayed. Senator Gamble’s intervention led to his name being added to the Sioux roll and potential allotment of 320 to 640 acres. He is also the author of a respected history of the Sioux Wars.
Glen Albracht four year old son of August and Mrs Albracht 1116 South Ninth street died this morning after a sudden illness with convulsions. He had been in good health prior to the episode and passed away before medical aid arrived. He leaves his parents a brother and sister. Mr Albracht is a shoe dealer with Albracht Hammes firm. The second notice records Ferdinand Stephen Burrow five months old son of Fred C and Mrs Burrow 219 Vine street died yesterday afternoon after five days with la grippe. Funeral Wednesday at 2 pm from the residence Rev Gamm officiating with Oak Grove cemetery interment.
Yesterday's national temperatures ranged from a cold 24 in Winnipeg to a warm 72 in Los Angeles. Wisconsin forecast calls for generally fair weather tonight and Tuesday with colder conditions. other forecasts were not received. A storm in the Mississippi Valley moved northeast with rain and snow and high winds, while a high pressure area sits over the Rockies and plains and a new low forms off the north Pacific coast.
