Coldest in U S Rhinelander Sets Nation’s Low

The Associated Press reports Rhinelander Wisconsin reached 30 below zero, the coldest in the country, with Stevens Point at 27 below and other readings across the state all below zero. Airline pilots note Lake Michigan nearly frozen from Green Bay to Michigan, first since 1936. Eau Claire and Superior Duluth tied at five below. Thermal California was warmest at 91.

Milk Production In State Up 2 Percent In 1962

Minnesota recount gives Rolvaag narrow lead over Andersen

A three judge recount in Minnesota lifted Karl Rolvaag to a 21 vote edge over Gov Elmer Andersen in early totals. With 1,000 plus ballots counted Rolvaag led 620 214 to 620 193. Rulings across three categories deducted 288 Rolvaag votes and 176 Andersen votes from statewide totals.
