A new law fails to amend general election rules to allow a new party on the ballot. The change would have removed T R men from the ticket but instead leaves the existing ballot structure intact ahead of the primary.
Henry Cochems of Milwaukee sought an Attorney General ruling after discovery that a 1914 ballot amendment affected only primary law not general elections. The bill, drafted under Mahon and backed by the governor and bull moose leaders, left the general ballot unchanged.
Immigration Commissioner Caminetti advised that Marie Lloyd may enter the United States if she posts a bond guaranteeing departure after her contracts in America end. Sullivan and Considine offer to furnish a $5,000 bond if needed.
Emil Kutz, 50, attacked his wife with a butcher knife in front of their three children in Peoria Illinois and then slashed his own throat with a razor. Both are reported as possibly dying. Kutz had previously been an inmate of an insane asylum.

Mrs A M Murphy wife of the city health officer underwent a serious operation at St Francis hospital today. Early this afternoon she was reported to have rallied from the ether and was doing as well as could be expected.
A blaze in Banff Alberta this morning destroyed the King Edward hotel, a famed Western Canada tourist resort, along with several adjacent buildings. Firefighters fought the flames as guests and staff evacuated safely. The incident prompted investigations into the cause and preliminary damage estimates.

Police blamed militant suffragettes for a fire that destroyed Hazelbank house, an old mansion sixteen miles from Inverness, on February 7. The blaze caused extensive damage to the property as investigators sought the arson’s motive.
John D. Rockefeller departed Forest Hill estate as Cleveland tax officials press a personal property tax dispute estimated at 12 million dollars. Commissioner John D. Fackler stated the fight would continue and property may be added to the tax duplicate with legal aid. Mrs. Rockefeller was ill and did not travel with him.
John D Rockefeller arrived in Tarrytown from Cleveland and offered no comment about the looming tax battle. Tax commissioners say they intend to collect on his vast fortune, estimated around 900 million dollars, as part of the ongoing dispute.
Ohio Attorney General Hogan says if John D Rockefeller fails to furnish the Cuyahoga county tax commission with the taxable property list by the legal deadline tonight the state will assess a fifty percent penalty. Rockefeller may appeal first to the board of complaints, then another appeal to the county tax commission, followed by court action.
Milwauke e authorities say enough evidence exists to convict Herman Zastrow, a confessed burglar, of attempting to wreck a Northwestern passenger train near Lindwur m on Christmas Day. Chief Special Agent A W Levy indicates Zastrow's accomplice, a nationally known figure, will be arrested soon. Zastrow, shot during a failed Fox Point robbery, spent weeks in a hospital. Lucy Harvey of Chicago, his fiancée, unknowingly provided the clue to the plot.
Wisconsin voters will decide ten proposed constitutional amendments including initiative and referendum, recall of most public officers, home rule for cities, state insurance, and easier amendment process. Proposals set limits on emergency laws, petitions require eight percent support, and subsidies for open government. The package also covers circuit sizes, property condemnation, and legislator pay.
London February 7. Mrs Barce Fox head of the Women s Social and Political Union denies reports that suffragettes will drop militant tactics. The denial follows an interview with Christabel Pankhurst published by United Press in Paris.
Haz el Herdman 25 admitted killing Mrs Harriet Manning during a break in at her home in Newark. She entered as a “friend from Philadelphia” and, after demanding life, shot Manning and later took bichloride of mercury poison, dying after confessing as police closed in.
The common council as a committee of the whole will decide on prohibiting blinding headlights on autos and vehicles. The measure passed two readings but was re referred to the committee where autoists gave opinions divided. The committee vote tied and will be reported back for council action.
An inquiry will be ordered into the disappearances of Second Lieut Spencer M. Smith and First Lieutenants Frank C. McCune and Clarence H. Farnum. Smith resigned and vanished from Texas City before his resignation. McCune and Farnum disappeared within three weeks. If caught, they face court martial as deserters. All three were promoted from the enlisted ranks.
