A. M. Brayton reports on Haugen testimony asserting Ekern was slated for removal regardless of actions. Three fled in night robes, two were carried out on stretchers and another patient overcome by smoke was carried to safety by M J Nugent, proprietor.
A natural gas explosion in a nearby coal mine near Fukuoka Japan entombed 150 miners. Many believed dead at once and chances for rescue of survivors were slim.
Amendments to the articles filed at the register of deeds rename the firm as Kuhn Sash and Door company and raise capital stock to 150000 dollars from 100000. The Minneapolis plant was destroyed by fire months ago and likely operations will continue in Minneapolis.

A boiler room blaze at St. Robert's college for boys in Green Bay Wisconsin forced about fifty students to flee in their night clothes. The fire began in the boiler room early today threatening lives as flames spread.
A Wisconsin Assembly bill would let normal schools offer full four year collegiate courses and confer bachelor degrees. The plan would credit normal school work toward the University of Wisconsin degrees and shift undergraduates from the main university. University faculty are expected to oppose, fearing a weakening of the university system.

Miss Ella Dorr a Humboldt high school English teacher resigns on February 6 as she wed. During the ceremony the school board named Miss Anne Doherty from La Crosse Wisconsin as her successor. Doherty reported for duty at Humboldt high school that morning.
In St Louis on February 6 the elderly telegraph operator James H Gallagher who is blind from a fall uses Morse code tapped on his cheek and forehead to receive daily news from his son. Gallagher has forty years in telegraph work and learned the code before losing his hearing.
Reports from Sofia say Bulgarian forces occupy Mereste Bulair Charkeui and Kavak on Gallipoli as 45,000 Turkish troops retreat toward the Marmara coast. London dispatches claim Mahmud Shevket Pasha leads secret peace talks with Bulgaria, with Greece Serbia and Montenegro unlikely to accept terms alone. Ambassadors discuss a plan to reopen negotiations while Turkey keeps a seat at the conference.
Tearful pleas of A. L. Ruthven’s seven year old son delayed his move to the federal penitentiary in Atlanta. Ruthven, convicted of swindling involving a railway signal device, was to depart last night but Federal Judge R. G. Foster granted a stay to allow his son to keep him in New Orleans a few days more.
