Food Prices Rise While Farm Share Drops in November
Agriculture Department figures show the annual cost of a market basket of U.S. farm produced food rose by 14 dollars in November though the farm share fell by 16 dollars from October. The hypothetical household of 3.2 people faced a yearly food bill of 1634 dollars, up 0.9 percent, while the farm share stood at 707 dollars and the marketing spread rose 30 dollars. If farm value declines had been passed along, retail prices would have fallen about 1 percent. The Fennimore Times in Wisconsin changes ownership, sold by the Roethe heirs to an employee, ending Beebe family ownership since 1897.
