Johnson Up Early For Deer Hunting

President Johnson and former Gov. Buford Ellington hunted deer at the LBJ Ranch near Johnson City Texas while planning to discuss national problems. Johnson announced a plan to cut federal payrolls by 1965 and noted a 133000 increase in federal employees since 1961.

Body of Hunter Keith Cooper Found Near Fort Sisseton

Keith Cooper 40, of Huron, missing since a December 7 blizzard, was found Christmas afternoon in his car four miles north of Fort Sisseton. He died of asphyxiation. the car had been buried under snow and was revealed by a recent warm spell after searches failed to locate it.

Christmas crossovers surge as Berlin wall toll rises

About 50,000 West Berliners crossed into East Berlin by noon for Christmas visits despite a recent shooting at the wall. East German guards kept smiling as a 18 year old was shot atop the barrier, dying six hours later, while East Berliners remained barred from westbound travel.

Two Women Die In Foster City Area Crash Nearby

A two car collision three miles north of Foster, Eau Claire County, Tuesday at 5 48 p m killed La Crosse resident Edna Drost 38 and Helen Scheuermann 31 of Strum. Drost and her family were en route to Rice Lake to celebrate Christmas. Edmund Drost 40 and daughters Dianne 16 Theresa 11 were injured and treated at Sacred Heart Hospital Eau Claire. Scheuermann died later at Luther Hospital Eau Claire. Rosary set Thursday and services Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes Church Dobie. Croft of La Crosse Montgomery Ward employed since September.

Cyprus Tension Eases As British Beef Up Troops

Miss Easton Dies Pioneer Family Member

Margaret Easton of La Crosse died at 72 in a local nursing home after a life of work with children and Easter Seals. Memorials are to Wisconsin Easter Seal Society. Survived by three sisters and a brother. She gave her body to science and was active in medical and charitable groups. Memorial services Friday at Christ Episcopal Church. Obituary: Dr James Pauly ObGyn Dies by Suicid in La Crosse

Dr James P Pauly 44 a La Crosse obstetrician died by suicide at his home after a Christmas hospital stay. He left a note citing health issues and was found by his wife in the basement. Survived by his wife Ardele four daughters three sons and extended relatives. Funeral services set for Blessed Sacrament Church with Monsignor O Shaughnessy officiating. He had practiced since 1952 after training at Loras College and University of Iowa Medical School and served as a Navy commander on Okinawa.

The Associated Press reports that Christmas holiday traffic killed 302 people over 48 hours from Monday midnight to Christmas Day midnight. Fatalities peaked Wednesday, with 83 by Tuesday midnight and 100 on the West Coast by then.

An oil heater exploded in a Walter Johnson family home in Charleston Washington, D C killing 12 members eight boys and four girls aged 8 months to 20 years all Negroes seven others including Mrs Johnson and a 16 year old son escaped Johnson 51 was badly burned while trying to save them authorities blamed spillage during floor brightening for a new linoleum floor the blast occurred in the top bedroom of the house.

A Christmas Eve highway crash near Schofield, Wisconsin killed three people and injured others when a northbound car skidded on ice and broadside a second vehicle. Elroy Severson, Kenneth Severson, and Louis Nichols died from their injuries.
