Navy Man Is 1st Holiday Traffic Fatality In State
A Winnebago County man returning home for Christmas became Wisconsin’s first holiday fatality of the period. John Mateyka 21 Oshkosh died early today after a scooter on I 94 nine miles west of Racine was struck. The driver fled. Milwaukee police later arrested a 21 year old Stevens Point man. Mateyka was in the U S Navy. A 7 year old Cadott boy Randy Geisler died Monday after a car struck him and another boy along Highway 29 eleven miles east of Chippewa Falls.
