Antonio Zanardi and Eugene Bris hiarno arrived in New York with a barrel to roll around the world. If the barrel lasts twelve years and the venture succeeds they win a 10000 francs prize from a French noble. Brisbiarno hopes to undertake another trip if successful.

Martin B. Ladd and wife, longtime West Salem residents, marked their 63rd wedding anniversary with an informal reception and supper. Married December 4 1854 in Monkton Vermont, they moved to West Salem in 1868 where Ladd ran a mercantile business until 15 years ago. He was born in 1829, 84, while Mrs. Ladd is 81 and fully recovered from a prior double leg fracture.
Frank C. Kleinertz of 527 King St is named as one of four heirs to a fortune of about 1 million marks from his German aunt. The bulk of the estate came from selling property near Cologne Cathedral to fund an addition. The heirs share equally, and Kleinertz has delegated claims to his mother and sister in Germany. The estate will be wound up, possibly delaying payment for months.
In Salt Lake City on December 6, miners in Bingham reported Rafael Lopez the Mexican bandit still at large after a search of the Apex mine. A party returned from the Andy tunnel with no trace of him amid a one third mine sweep. Sheriffs previously suspected Lopez died from poisonous gas in the mine, but todays reports cast doubt on that outcome.
Dr. Max Henius of Chicago will lecture on the Norwegian method of handling liquor traffic at Germania hall as part of the Upper Mississippi Valley Brewmasters convention in progress. An annual banquet follows and a ball will close the session this evening. Officers for the coming year will be elected, amid a barley and hops committee meeting with brew masters from Milwaukee St Paul Minneapolis and Chicago attending.
Mrs. C. S. Van Auken received a meager telegram announcing the death of a former local man. The article notes he was sold to a new firm recently, with his former partner’s competing firm buying him out and him engaging in business in Omaha. The cause of death was not known early in the week.
John W. Bryant longtime La Crosse business figure and former president of the Manufacturers and Jobbers club died in Omaha. He headed good roads efforts and led the local grocery firm Bryant & Sisson before relocating to Nebraska. His body expected back in La Crosse tomorrow noon.
A passenger train and a freight train collided near Coleshti Roumania killing one hundred people and injuring many more. The disaster occurred December 16 and shockwaves spread through Bucharest as rescue teams worked at the scene.
