Temperature shifts have been small in past hours. The Texas storm’s northeasterly flow may bring rain tonight and Saturday with little temperature change. Past 24 hours heavy precipitation totals include Denver 2.28, Amarillo 1.14, Oklahoma 1.04, Concordia 1.82, Wichita 1.58, Fort Smith 0.45.

Colonel David D. B. Gaillard chief engineer of the Panama canal died this morning at Johns Hopkins hospital Phipps clinic after weeks in semi consciousness. He suffered brain artery hardening attributed to work on the Culebra cut. Born Winnsboro South Carolina September 4 1850 he had been assigned to Panama since November 1906.
Chicago, Dec 5. Over 100000 women and men wage earners in Chicago are idle, a statement today from John Fitzpatrick of the Chicago Federation of Labor says. Fitzpatrick based the figure on reports from labor agents and others connected with the unemployment issue.

Dec. 5 Chicago Mrs. Margaret Kellogg 87 who rode the first Chicago and Northwestern passenger train out of Chicago has died. She was a cousin of Robert Ingersoll.
August Panke of 1518 Badger street was killed when a wagon loaded with hay toppled at the Ferry Street corner. The load slid free as the wagon hit a rut and drove him headfirst to the street. He died within minutes before medical help arrived. The body was taken to Miller Brothers' morgue.
Ten thousand Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company workers in the Panther Creek valley are idle amid a strike the company calls a lockout. The dispute arose after a nine hour day demand met with a full nine hour work requirement. Collieries and shops were closed by order of Vice President Ludlow.

The group adopted a committee report calling for a cooperative packing plant and endorsed the project. The motion came from A J Carnahan, vice president and investigating committee member.
