Reporting from Springfield Illinois on August fifteenth a violent mob riot flared injuring many and fatally harming a Black man. Militia companies marched toward the city while troops prepared to restore order amid looming martial law.
In Atlanta on August 15, black residents express indignation over Springfield race riots. A mass meeting is planned for tomorrow to protest white actions in Illinois disturbances and to discuss plans to guard the race against further outbreaks.
A mob triggered by a vendetta turned violent at night, prompting authorities to deploy soldiers at 2:30 AM. Fires spread across thirty five Black‑owned businesses on Washington, with Lopez’s site first burned. By 4:00 AM order restored and firefighting contained the blazes.
Officials in Norfolk Virginia report preparations to resist a mob after a group attacked Portsmouth jail to lynch William King and Henry Smith accused of assaulting an elderly white woman, Katharine Powell. The two prisoners were moved for safety and the mob is said to be forming again near Portsmouth to march on the city.
A mob ransacked streets from Jefferson to Mason and from 5th to 12th, tearing structures apart and burning all negro residences. Soldiers fired on the rioters as windows were shot out and quarters emptied during the unrest.

Washington August 15 The Baldwin airship speed test reached 19.61 mph, below the 20 mph requirement risking a 15 percent deduction from the $6,750 contract price. Endurance test to cover 28 miles in two hours may occur this afternoon.
Wausau official J P Werle praises La Crosse baseball as a strong pennant challenger while noting Wausau’s need for morning practice and injury woes. The famous Thomas automobile, winner of the New York to Paris race, arrives with drivers George Shuster and G. Miller from Havre aboard the Lorraine. The car is in good condition after a 20 000 mile route over broken roads and mountain passes. Shuster says with little repair the car could duplicate the trip.
New York Aug 15 Dominico Graziano 22 was shot and killed today by his bride of six months after a quarrel over his demand she debase herself to keep him idle. She shot him through the heart and fled.
A black hand bomb shattered the lower part of a Hamilton avenue tenement in Brooklyn throwing residents from bed. The blast drew over a thousand half clad Italians to the street in panic as owner Leopold Tacello faced black hand letters demanding 4000 dollars but ignored them.
Vesper Boat club of Philadelphia won the first race in Springfield on August 15 with a time of 8 58. The Minnesota Boat club of St Paul finished second.
