Milne to retire as bank chief executive in La Crosse
George W. Milne, 65, chairman of the board of the First National Bank of La Crosse, will retire as chief executive officer after 42 years in banking. Duane W. Ring becomes CEO May 1 while Milne remains chairman and director. Milne joined as executive vice president in 1955 and led assets from under 25 million to over 80 million by 1973.

Onalaska Crash Kills Island Man
A 63 year old French Island man, Harry R. Wendling of 1403 La Crescent St., was killed in a head on crash on Highway 53 at the Onalaska north city limits while driving home from Metallics Inc Brice Prairie after his last day of work. The other driver, Roger A. Gerbig Sr., 32, R. J. Taylor, suffered a fractured leg and facial cuts and received two tickets for drunk driving. The collision occurred at 3 42 p m with skid marks suggesting Wendling was stopped or nearly stopped. Further charges may be considered by District Atty Burleigh Randolph and Traffic Police Chief Herbert Garbers. Wendling's death is the county's second in 1973 and the first outside La Crosse since Dec 4 1972. Services and burial are planned with survivors including his widow Marie, a daughter Janice Goyette, a son Fred, three grandchildren, three sisters and three brothers.
