Complete unofficial returns show defeat for proposed bonds of 1 million for two municipal airports and 150000 for a presidents plaza and 150000 for electric light plant. voters approve 500000 for city hospital improvement and 150000 for a junior high in North Nashville. The city would contribute 15060 toward the presidents plaza with state and federal funds totaling 600000 and 300000 respectively.
State highway officials announced bids opened for the 9.9 mile Kingsport to Johnson City highway section from Sullivan county line to Johnson City. The project will reduce the Kingsport to Johnson City distance by about 16 miles and will be paved with 20 feet of concrete. A successful bidder will be named soon, with total bids exceeding 200000 dollars across several road works.
