Mostly they come in class groups properly chaperoned. But when you turn a couple of Hun dred kids Loose in a single hotel something s bound to happen. One hotel manager said that a few years ago the bellhops were unhappy because a kid would come to town for the week end with enough Luggage to carry him through the summer. The kid would expect the Bell boy to lug his gear up and do it without a the manager said. We sympathized with the visitors who maybe had saved from their paper carrying Moey and were not about to give it the hotel association finally settled that by slapping a 10 cent fee on each bag going in and out of the hotels. This inspired most of the Young gawk ers to carry their own stuff. It is not to the discredit of total integration 01 All races sought the Young of America that they like to take Home some memento from a visit to Washington. The manager of the Willard hotel told me it took some time to solve this one. We decided to let it get around to the kids that the maids were responsible for All of the property in the rooms and would have to pay for anything that was he said. A lot of keys which Cost a Dollar apiece were disappearing. So we asked the chaperones to collect All the keys and Deposit them at the the number on the doors used to make Fine souvenirs. These were Metal and expensive. To Day in most Washington hotels the numbers Are made of plastic and Are screwed and cemented to the doors.
